ClipperCreek HCS-40 Gets eMotorWerks’ Wi-Fi, Connected Functionality – Undercuts ChargePoint Home Price By $100
What’s the HCS-40 JuiceNet Edition, you ask? Well, it combines ClipperCreek’s highly popular HCS-40 EVSE with eMotorWerks’ JuiceBox controls.
More specifically, eMotorWerks fits the HCS-40 with its JuiceNet controls, which add “adds real-time control, monitoring, and automated smart-grid optimization,’ as well as Wi-Fi functionality, to “select ClipperCreek charging stations.”
Essentially, the HCS-40 JuiceNet Edition becomes a direct competitor to ChargePoint Home.
Availability? The HCS-40 JuiceNet Edition is “available immediately for pre-order from eMotorWerks’ website and will start shipping in October of 2015.” Beta units are being tested right now.
So, what’s the price?
In a effort to make the HCS-40 JuiceNet Edition as competitive as possible, pricing undercuts ChargePoint Home units by a substantial amount. The HCS-40 JuiceNet is priced at $649 for both the plug-in hardwired versions, which means that it’s up to $100 less than a comparable ChargePoint Home system.
The standard ClipperCreek HCS-40 (without JuiceNet functionality) is a 32-amp unit that’s priced from $565 with a 25-foot cord as standard.
A 32-amp ChargePoint Home with a 25-foot cord costs $699 to $749 (hardwire version is $699, plug-in version is $749). So, the ClipperCreek HCS-40 JuiceNet plug-in version at $649 is a full $100 less than the comparable ChargePoint Home unit.
As for retrofits for current owners of ClipperCreek HCS-40 EVSEs (or possibly even other ClipperCreek units) we’re told that, while technically possible, timing and pricing have not yet been set.
