A new unit for charging electric vehicles is on track to be installed this year in a downtown Petoskey parking lot.

During a meeting last week, the Downtown Management Board decided to support the purchase and installation of a dual, pedestal-mounted charging station from ClipperCreek at a cost of up to $5,000, said downtown director Becky Goodman.

Plans call for the unit to be installed in the Darling parking lot along Michigan Street, adjacent to a soon-to-be-built segment of the Downtown Greenway concrete path which follows a former railroad corridor. According to a city memo, the unit will be installed by the vendor and connected to a power supply by the city’s public works department during the Greenway construction this year.
